California’s Los Angeles is synonymous with glamour and gloss, inspiring ideas of beaches, riches and celebrity culture. Its exports range from musicians to skateboarding to sports stars, and its timeless reputation conjures up a plentiful plethora of images. The city also holds a number of events and festivals throughout the year, with plenty to tempt tourists and locals alike.
Los Angeles is home to perhaps the most famous event in the world, The Academy Awards. The Oscars is the biggest red carpet attraction on the planet and draws hundreds of A-List stars along with keen celeb-spotters eager to stand alongside the fun and watch the entrances unfold. Though opportunities to engage are limited, it’s a unique opportunity to see a huge and prestigious attraction… so get yourself at the entrance and watch the big names pile in!
California Strawberry Festival is another large affair, though with less celebrities and more tasty fruit. If it has strawberries in it, on it or with it, you’ll find it here. Belly-busting treats include typical temptations like chocolate-coated strawberries alongside cakes and smoothies, while more wacky and weird offerings include strawberry pizza, strawberry nachos, deep-fried strawberries and plenty more. There are also kids’ events, cooking classes, demonstrations, presentations, berry-eating contests, strawberry tart tossing and plenty of arts, crafts and music.
Los Angeles Film Festival screens some of the best cinema from around the world, with screenings of more than 200 films. Here, you’ll find blockbusters, independent films, foreign cinema, shorts, documentaries and music videos. Each year hosts special guests and special speakers, and the awards on offer are a varied bunch. The festival also delivers world premieres of massive movies, such as Pixar’s Brave, which had its very first showing here. There are also panels, discussion, special events and unique screenings. With a range of world-famous films and independent oddities, this is an event with something for everyone, so if you like the silver screen, this’ll whet your appetite.
Los Angeles also offers lots of music throughout the year, with rock, blues and jazz, the latter of these featuring most prominently, in both Monterey Jazz Festival and Playboy Jazz Festival, both of which have plenty to blow your trumpet.
There are many more festivals and events throughout the year, with lots of parades, fireworks, foods, sports, beer, county fairs and Christmas celebrations. The land of glitz and glamour has it all in abundance!
