About Festivals, Craft Shows and Fairs in Michigan

Bordering four of the Great Lakes, Midwestern Michigan has attracted nature lovers for decades. Tourists and locals can also enjoy the state’s coastlines, lush forests, vibrant cities, soaring cliffs and welcoming locals. And with a brimming and unique festival scene, there’s every incentive for you to join the fun!

Michigan is famed for its hearty habit of stuffing cherries into pastries (and mouths!), so it’s no wonder that the state’s National Cherry Festival is much-loved. Founded in 1926, more than half a million cherry lovers take the pilgrimage each year in honour of the popular fruit. If you can do it with a cherry, it’s done here. There are baking contests, pit-spitting contests, pie-eating competitions, cherry discussions, lots of tastings, cherry-based food and drinks and loads more. The event also offers a great range of entertainment, parades, displays, sales, family activities and eight chock-full days of fruity fun!

If you’re seeking something unique to put a smile on your chops, Gilda’s LaughFest might be right up your alley. Giggle, chuckle and guffaw yourself silly with ten days dedicated to the joy and therapy of laughter! The festival will get your sides splitting with improvisation gigs, stand-up comedy, film, authors and a whole program of belly-busting fun. Previous attendees have included massive names such as Kevin Hart, Whoopi Goldberg, Jay Leno, Betty White, Bo Burnham, Jim Jefferies, Chris Tucker and more. Whatever type of comedy you like, and no matter your age, LaughFest will tickle your ribs and send you home happy!

Alma Highland Festival offers attendees the very best of Scottish and Highland culture. Whether it’s bagpipes, piping, fiddling, drumming, dancing, pies, shortbread, or dogs, it’s here. For almost fifty years, the event has been delivering the very best in tartan-clad fayre, and it continues to do so every year, with many educating and exciting events and attractions. Stick your kilt on, grab some haggis and join in!

But if German culture is your thing, then Frankenmuth Oktoberfest may be more your style. It’s a raucous riot of German heritage, with traditional food, beer, entertainment and events. Stomp your feet, sup your ale and shake your lederhosen!

Michigan also offers festivals dedicated to flowers, music, arts, coastguards, winter, snow and more. The Great Lake state offers something for all comers – so get yourself involved and find something you love!
