There are many Calgary events located downtown where one can enjoy a festival, specifically at the Olympic Plaza, Eau Claire’s Festival Plaza, and Prince’s Island Park. Most enjoy eating when attending a festival and one has the Taste of Calgary and the Barbeque on the Bow as options to try out. The Taste of Calgary offers the patron a wide variety of cuisine to sample including Cajun, Caribbean, East Indian, and Mediterranean food. One can purchase a “sampling ticket” for a dollar in order to pick and choose any or all of the selections. Festivals in Calgary are not complete without good barbeque. The BBQ on the Bow offers patrons brisket, pork, and ribs. Locals and visitors to Calgary compete for substantial cash and prizes and are judged on the taste of the meat, tenderness, and appearance.
Calgary music festivals include the Calgary Folk Music Festival that provides one an opportunity to listen to multiple bands from a number of countries on various stages. One can come and go throughout the day, watch the bands on jumbo video screens, and there is always plenty of room for dancing. There is plenty of food offered on site or one can bring their own to save a few dollars.
