About This Festival

Bluegrass Music Association of Iowa will be hosting the 7th Annual BMAI Honey Creek Resort Bluegrass Festival on October 27- 30, 2016. This event will be held in the Ball Room at the beautiful Honey Creek Resort on Lake Rathbun near Moravia, Iowa. Nine bands will perform this weekend beginning with a gospel show on Thursday October 27th at 7:00 pm. Scheduled to perform are: International Touring artist and Grammy Nominee Dale Ann Bradley Band from Kentucky as well as Williamson Branch from Nashville, TN. Another artist will be announced at a later date.
On Friday morning BMAI will be offering area 6th Grade students the opportunity to join them for a presentation on bluegrass music with a short documentary DVD “Fanning the Fire”, a mini concert with Williamson Branch, and Question and Answer Session with workshops. Workshops will also be offered Friday afternoon for beginners-advanced musicians, as well as a beginner’s jam session and workshop.
Friday Evening show will kick off at 6:30 PM with an Open Stage for those wanting to showcase their group or artist abilities. Following will be performances by the Iowa based band Lori King and Junction 63, Missouri band Bull Harman & Bulls Eye, as well as another performance by Dale Ann Bradley Band and Williamson Branch. Saturday will once again feature performances by Bull Harman and Bulls Eye and Lori King and Junction 63. In addition we will add 2 new groups to the line-up of amazing artists this weekend. The award winning group Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers “IBMA 2012 Emerging Artist of the Year” from Ohio as well as the KBA Treblemakers a youth group from Kansas will each perform 2 sets.
On Sunday starting at 1pm BMAI will recognize artists, volunteers, donors, and youth at the 1st Annual BMAI Awards Show. Throughout the ceremony you will hear performances by the KBA Treblemakers, Bull Harman and Bulls Eye, The Punches Family, and the Bluegrass Blondies.
The event will have raffle drawings, silent auctions, and vendors to add to the excitement of the venue. Saturday morning there will be the guitar and vocal workshops. In addition, Saturday evening BMAI will do a short informational presentation the Play It Forward! Program. Play It Forward! is an instrument lending library program for Iowa youth age 8-21 that are interested in learning to play a primary bluegrass instrument.
