Blessed with a beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline, lush forests, and stately mountains, Oregon is one of the most beautiful states in the U.S.A. Visitors can choose from activities in the natural world including hiking, nature walks, skiing, biking, bird watching, fishing and more. Oregon festivals include dozens of fairs, carnivals, arts and crafts shows, antique and gun shows, food and beverage celebrations, concerts, exhibits and displays. Oregon State Fair (mid-August to early September), Salem.
Fairgoers enjoy a carnival, exhibits of farm and floral displays, 4-H activities, FFA projects, arts and crafts, and food. There is stage entertainment, classic cars, and music and dancing. Dogtown is the venue where X-treme Air Dogs compete in the dock diving championship. There is Frisbee-catching, herding, K9s, tricks dogs etc. There is a tasting of amateur wines and home-brewed beer, horse and livestock shows, and a talent contest.
Pendleton Round-Up Week (second week in September), Pendleton.
A PRCA event, the 100-year-old Pendleton Round-Up, is one of the largest rodeos in the world. Professional Rodeo Cowboys and Professional Bull Riders Association members compete in this sanctioned competition. Events include bareback, saddle bronc and Brahma bull riding; calf, steer and team roping; steer wrestling; barrel racing; wild cow milking; and Indian relay races.
Oregon Shakespeare Festival (February through November), Ashland.
The festival includes 11 plays, 4 of which are by Shakespeare, performed on the Festival stages before 410,000 people annually. Complementing the plays are dance performances, cultural dance groups, improv, live music including metal, rock, blues, jazz, folk, choirs, gospel, western, mariachi, etc.
Portland Rose Festival (May through June).
The Portland Rose Festival is composed of events that begin in May and conclude in June. Major activities are the Starlight Parade, Fleet Week, the Rose Society Annual Rose Show, Rose Cup Road Race, Rose Queen Coronation, and Grand Floral Parade. Other events include tours of historic homes, dragon boat races, Starlight Run, and grand floral walk.
