About This Festival

The 30th annual Mainly Mozart Festival, set for June 1-24, 2018 and led by Music Director Michael Francis, continues its six-year exploration of Mozart’s life with Year Three - Brave New World: From Rebel to Entrepreneur.

June 8-10, the fourth annual Genius Weekend is an intense three days of concerts, lectures, and parties celebrating genius in the spirit of Mozart. In 2018 this event honors Nobel Laureate and Salk Institute CEO Elizabeth Blackburn, and celebrates “genius in unexpected places” with a focus on autism spectrum in partnership with TERI, Inc. and Autism Society of San Diego.

Friday, June 8, 7PM-10PM GENIUS WEEKEND SHOWCASE: Extraordinary artists on the autism spectrum perform at this fundraiser at a Rancho Sante Fe home.

Saturday, June 9,10AM-1PM MAINLY MOZART FESTIVAL OPEN REHEARSAL at The BALBOA THEATRE: FREE. Michael Francis leads the Festival Orchestra in the final rehearsal before the Opening night of the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra with pianist Anne-Marie McDermott

Saturday, June 9,12PM-5PM – MUSIC & THE MIND IN THE GASLAMP QUARTER: Experience cutting-edge science and medicine with world-class musical performance! Three Gaslamp restaurants host mini-lectures with paired performance, themed cocktails and neuro-technology displays.

Saturday, June 9, 9:30PM– GENIUS NIGHT IN THE GASLAMP: Members of the Festival Orchestra honor Elizabeth Blackburn and the weekend’s distinguished speakers in this annual celebration.
