There are numerous festivals in San Francisco each year. The festivals express the differing cultures and interests of this great city.
A number of festivals are based on traditional holidays. The Chinese New Year Parade and Celebration celebrates the Chinese New Year with a street fair, beauty contest, flower show and a fantastic parade with dragons. The Cherry Blossom Festival brings spring alive in Japantown with performers, craft booths, unique foods, martial art demonstrations and a parade featuring cherry blossoms and lanterns. Other festivals include the Italian street fair, Juneteenth and Oktoberfest.

The San Francisco International Arts Festivals features over 150 ticketed performers, a street fair, art sales and exhibitions, educational classes and outreach events spread over three weeks. The Fillmore Jazz Festival is the largest free jazz festival on the West Coast and one of the most famous San Francisco music festivals. The San Francisco World Music Festival features performers from all over the world and includes native music from the United States.

The San Francisco Food Festival features over a mile of food vendors on Folsom Street and includes many foods native to the Pacific Coast including crab and lots of sourdough bread. The Ghiradelli Chocolate Celebration turns into a chocolate arts festival for chocolate lovers of all kinds. The Great Dickens Christmas Fair recreates Christmas in the time of Charles Dickens with singers, dancers, craft items, gifts and snow. A visitor to the city with enjoy San Francisco events and can find something special to do just about every weekend.
