Galway Days Irish Festival 2024

August, 2024

Sydney Laurence Theatre, Anchorage, Alaska

About This Festival

In its never–ending quest to celebrate all things Irish, the Irish Club of Alaska will again present the Annual Galway Days Irish Festival on August 7th, 2021. After having gone completely digital last year, 2021 gives us a unique chance to develop a hybrid festival that will incorporate both digital and live performances. An all-day pass into the theater is $10.00 and available through CenterTix. At home viewers will be able to view most of the performance shenanigans online as a livestream on the Irish Club's YouTube channel.

The Sydney Laurence Theatre at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts will open its doors at 11 am on August 7th to a limited number of patrons to view live performances on stage as well as prerecorded performances on screen. The live acts include Caitlin Warbelow, The Irish Dance Academy of Alaska, The Derry Aires, Tania Opland, The Midnight Sun Cloggers and Wade Hampton Miller. Appearing in the theater on video will be Jubilee, Dublin Balladeer Philip Price, Fiddler Brian Conway, Guitarist John Walsh, and Wings to Fly.

Also available throughout the day beginning at 9 am are a series of workshops and singarounds on Zoom, with topics such as Irish Songs of Wordplay, The Book of Kells, DADGAD tuning for Guitar, Sligo Fiddle Styles, Songs of the Famine, History of the Irish Harp, and more. Also appearing from Ireland will be storyteller Helena Byrne. Most workshops are free of charge and some have a nominal charge.

Please join us in person or online to celebrate Irish performing arts and culture!

The 2021 Galway Days Irish Festival has been made possible by a generous grant from The Atwood Foundation.
