South Dakota events happen in a frontier paradise. New economic growth has created a vibrancy in local events and festivals in South Dakota. The summers are hot and dusty, but the scenic wonders are enchanting (just ask General Custer). The Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in Rapid City is filled with cowboy-style flair and all day free country music concerts for the entire family. Gold Discovery Days in Custer allows travelers to immerse themselves in the lifestyle of the plains while enjoying all sorts of Americana from classic cars, to crafts, and a world class fiddle contest.
Deadwood, SD is the location for the Days Of '76 celebration, which is a cowboy and cowgirl hub accompanied by a long line-up of country and rock bands in the city's Main Street. Of course, any list of South Dakota music festivals wouldn't be complete without mentioning the country's largest bike rally and biker party in Sturgis. Yes, it's just known as “Sturgis.” This week-long event is sponsored by Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, and features a rousing welcome by the Mayor's office, followed by a nearly endless line-up of bands and street shows. Often rowdy, this festival is geared toward adults, but the rest of the family has the entire state to enjoy in the meantime.
