A MUSICAL COMEDY that takes a voyeuristic view at the first date of awkward conservative blind date newbie Aaron against the artsy, highly opinionated serial dater Casey, what could go wrong?
The newest production by Grey Lantern Production, directed by Lorna Mackie at the WA Maritime Museum Theatre, Fremantle, First Date – The Musical is a fun, light-hearted musical comedy that is sure to deliver at FRINGEWORLD 2018.
The story follows the blind date of Casey and Aaron in a busy New York restaurant, however the night takes a delightful and unexpected twist as the couple quickly find they are not alone. Restaurant patrons and staff begin to transform into best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents who sing and dance them through the evening. Can this couple work it out? Will they get through the night unscathed, and most importantly, who will pick up the cheque?
The musical is written by Austin Winsberg, with upbeat songs and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner.
Fresh from a run in Shenton Park in 2017, the show performed a three week run to rave reviews, describing it as “A triumph” and “Impeccable”. The show has a lively upbeat score with witty and funny music from a range of different styles. It’s perfect for the FRINGEWORLD audiences, as its intimate, relatable and irreverent style will appeal to all ages.
