About This Festival

In May each year, a gathering of some of Australia’s best storytellers takes place in the sunny Geraldton on WA’s Coral Coast … and everyone’s invited!

The 13th Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival promises to be magical and memorable. Festival guests presenting workshops, keynotes, readings and performances include beloved Australian cartoonist, painter, writer, philosopher and poet Michael Leunig; popular best-selling children’s author and illustrator Alison Lester; actor, storyteller and theatre maker Allan Girod; Iranian writer Shokoofeh Azar who is the only WA author longlisted in this year’s Stellar Prize; provocative novelist and multi-award winner Charlotte Wood; historian and writer Gideon Haigh, Yamaji visual artist and poet Charmaine Papertalk Green, contemporary romance writer Rachael Johns; poet, novelist and critic John Kinsella; children and young adult writer Julia Lawrinson; crime writer Jock Serong; and Singaporean author Nuraliah Norasid who has won her country’s richest literary prize.

There are both free and ticketed events across the Festival, which takes place in an array of interesting venues throughout Geraldton, hosted by Geraldton’s own literary talent.

What: The Big Sky Readers & Writers Festival is a three-day Festival in Geraldton for anyone who loves to tell, share, read, listen to or see great stories performed.

Who: Writers, storytellers, artists, poets, comedians, actors and more.

Where: In and around Geraldton on Western Australia’s Coral Coast, 420km north of Perth. The main venues are the Geraldton Universities Centre and Geraldton Regional Library. Special sessions are also planned for a number of other interesting venues.

Tickets: Most events are free to attend. Ticketed events start at $35 and are available from Eventbrite (eventbrite.com.au)
