What a better place to escape the frigid weather this winter than the “Land Down Under?” Seeing as it is in the southern hemisphere, Australia is a fantastic winter destination for those living in northern hemisphere as well as those that love adventure. Australia is a place of unique scenery, culture and food, all of which is reflected in the festivals that take place within the country. Queensland in particular is an especially interesting state in the northeast of Australia. Known for its beautiful coastline and the famous Great Barrier Reef, Queensland is also home to some of Australia’s best surfing. Tourists and locals alike enjoy the great surfing-related activities along with the other festivals in Queensland during 2015.

Australia Day Weekend – A Taste of the Outback (Jan 23)
Those interested in partaking in traditional Australian in celebration of the national holiday should look no further than the Australia Day Weekend – A Taste of the Outback. This particular festival will be taking place at the Hidden Creek Winery and Café in Ballandean. Visitors to this establishment during the Australia Day Weekend will be able to enjoy traditional Australian cuisine such as roo, croc and barra. Other dishes will also be offered that highlight a variety of local bush spices, herbs and fruits. Patrons will also be able to sample some of the vineyards wine during the weekend as well.

Australia Day at the Jordaryan Woodshed (Jan 26)
Australia Day festivities continue with the family friendly event taking place at the Jordaryan Woodshed in rural Queensland. Festival goers that make the trek to this event will not be disappointed with the traditional Australian culture that is portrayed through the many demonstrations taking place on location, including sheep shearing, bee keeping and torch-lit tours of the site. Those that choose to camp out for the weekend will enjoy traditional children’s games, catered meals and free movies in the evenings. If you’re traveling to Australia with your family, this is certainly a can’t-miss event for Australia Day Weekend.

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival (Jan 31)
For the tenth consecutive year, St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival will be making its way to Queensland to give some of the best upcoming artists a stage to show Australians why the deserve to be known on the international stage. Taking place at the SCA in Rozelle, the stop in Queensland is one of many for the festival that will span over three countries during its tour: Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. In addition to music, St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival also gives attendees the opportunity to enjoy other creatives in the region, putting local food and art on display for all to enjoy.

Scoot Burleigh Pro Presented by Vissla (Jan 30)
Great festivals will be taking place on the Gold Coast as well in 2015. At the end of January, the competitive surfing circuit begins in Australia at the Scoot Burleigh Pro Presented by Vissla. This competition pits some of the world’s greatest surfers against local talent trying to earn their way into the elite levels of competitive surfing. There’s a good amount of prize money on the line for the top surfer as well—15,000 AUD—so spectators can be sure that participants will be giving their best effort whenever they hit the waves.
